Hmm… Twitter

On March 11, 2009, in About PoolDawg, by Michael Feiman

What are you doing in 140 characters or less.  I’ve gotta say I’m not sure I’m sold on this new technology.  Even so, I’m all for trying new things, so I went and signed up for a Twitter account.

Well, reallyI signed up for a Twitter account a few months ago, but never really did anything with it, but I’m ready to give this a try.  I posted my first “tweet” (again, second tweet technically, but the first one from 4 months ago doesn’t really count) and I can say that I feel completely moronic saying that I just tweeted, but when in Rome I suppose.

At any rate, if you do the Twitter thing and you want to read about the mundane life of PoolDawg’s marketing guy, just click that bird above and follow away.  Who knows, I might even decide to use it to announce price drops, discount codes and such.

The revamping of PoolDawg is officially underway.  We’ve been working hard on mockups of the new front page and navigation and should have some of this locked down by the end of the week.

One of the biggest changes we’re making is in the navigation.  Its looking like we’re going to move to a more traditional navigation with all of our primary categories listed in tab format across the top (pool cues, pool cue cases, instruction, accessories, etc) and have the secondary navigation on the side.  Plus, we’re going to open up the layout a bit to make everything easier to see and read.

We’re also reorganizing the product pages to make information easier to access and will be adding additional specs and details for all of our products and streamlining the checkout.  At the request of many of our customers, we’re going to make training and instruction easier to access, giving everyone a clear path to all the training tools as well as articles from Billiards Digest and The Drill Instructor, Dominic Esposito.

Once we get further along in the redesign process, I should have some sneak peek screenshots to share.

PoolDawg Holiday Shipping Deadlines

On December 10, 2008, in About PoolDawg, by Michael Feiman

Seeing how we’re in the thick of the holiday season, I wanted to do a special blog post detailing our shipping cutoffs and deadlines.  First off, be sure to check the availability note on each product page.  In most cases, items will ship within 24 hours, but there are some items that we carry which have a 2-3 day lag and some of the larger items can take 1-2 weeks to ship.

That being said, here are the standard shipping deadlines:

3 Day Select – December 19th by 1PM MST
2 Day Air – December 22nd by 1PM MST
Overnight – December 23rd by 1PM MST

These deadlines are only for items that are marked as “shipping within 24 hours”.  For items that ship in 2-3 days, just tack on 2-3 business days to the above deadline.  As for ground shipping deadlines, take a look at the map below (if its too small to read, just click it to enlarge):

pooldawg_map_08Please note that our daily UPS cutoff is 1PM MST (3PM EST, 2PM CST, 12PM PST).  If the item is in stock and we get the order before 1PM MST, we’ll be able to get it shipped out that same day.  All orders received after the 1PM cutoff will ship out the next business day.

We want to make sure that everyone gets their pool cues and billiards accessories in time for the holidays, so if you have any questions about shipping timelines or product availability, just call us toll free at 866-843-3294.

PoolDawg in the Wall Street Journal

On October 13, 2008, in PoolDawg News and PR, by Michael Feiman

Yep, you read it right.  PoolDawg scored some very nice mainstream ink with a mention in the world’s premere financial newspaper, The Wall Street Journal.  The author of the article, Riva Richmond, wrote an article about how small businesses prepare for the online holiday season and she was nice enough to give us a mention as well as our pals over at Steve Spangler Science.

If you want to check out the article, you can find it in their old school printed daily or at WSJ.com in their small business section.  Not too shabby for a crazy little company run by a rowdy ceramic dawg.

Win A Man Cave with Bill Me Later and PoolDawg

On October 1, 2008, in Contests, by Michael Feiman

What guy doesn’t want his own Man Cave, right? Here’s the deal. Our pals over at Bill Me Later have created the “Win Your Own Man Cave” Challenge. We’re talkin’ $15,000 in prizes to the winner from companies like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Newegg, Fathead, Eastbay and of course PoolDawg.

I’m sure you’re wondering how you can get in on this, so here are the basics. You’re going to need to send Bill Me Later a video, an essay or photos telling them why you deserve the Man Cave. For all the rules, you need to visit IWantMyManCave.com.

For our part, we’ll be giving away a very sweet package featuring a set of spectator chairs, a poker table and a full 500 count poker chip set. Not too shabby, right?  Keep in mind that it will be BillMeLater doing the judging, so if you have questions or you want to enter, you need to go to http://www.iwantmymancave.com.
