BCA Ban On Phenolic Tips Explained

On June 30, 2009, in Uncategorized, by Michael Feiman

As many of you know, rumors have been swirling around that the BCA Leagues will be banning phenolic tips.  We received a message from a BCA referee explaining the following about the new rule:

“The cue tip on break cues must be made of leather with no non-leather materials added to the contacting surface.”

Apparently this rule does not apply to jump cues, as it looks like the BCA Leagues are only banning the use of phenolic tips on breaking cues, so if you own a Predator Air or any other jump cue with a phenolic tip, you can continue to use those in league play.  Break cues like the crazy popular 27oz Heavy Breaker though, are now officially against the rules.

2008 PoolDawg Bestseller Series – Break Cues

On December 30, 2008, in Billiards Products, by Michael Feiman

Its one of the most frequently asked questions we get here at PoolDawg.  “What is the most popular pool cue, tip tool, case, etc?”  Over the next few weeks (or months depending on how often I get to blog), I’ll be going through our final 2008 sales stats to tell you our best sellers in each brand and category.  Keep in mind that these are not recommendations as in some cases the best cue will not always be the same as the best selling cue.

Starting off this series of posts I’m going with Break Cues.  We carry excellent break cues from companies like Predator, Mezz, Players and Lucasi to name a few, but one cue outsold them all: The Elite Heavy Break Cue.

The 27oz Heavy Break Cue by Elite

The 27oz Heavy Break Cue by Elite

Its controversial, its polarizing and for the second year in a row, it is our best selling break cue by a wide margin.  As with most breakers now, it features a phenolic tip and ferrule but what really sets it apart from the rest is the weight.  We have yet to find a heavier break cue on the market and at 27oz, this one isn’t exactly street legal.  Love it or hate it, you can’t deny its popularity.

Banned Break Cues are Back In Stock

On February 19, 2008, in Billiards Products, by Michael Feiman

Sorry about the lack of posts for the past 5 months… yikes! You’ll be happy to know that we’ll be blogging again on a regular basis and more importantly, the Elite Heavy Break Cue is back in stock. The announcement went out yesterday via email. so in case you missed it, here it is again:

Back by popular demand is the Elite Heavy Duty 27oz “Banned” Break Cue. We hear it over and over again. Pool players always want to know how to get a stronger break. They want more power and more action. If you can handle it, the answer for you may just be the new Elite “Heavy” Break Cue. This new breaker generates power through its massive weight. Rather than weighing just 20oz or 21oz, the Heavy weighs in at approximately 27oz, making it one of the heaviest breakers on the market.

The weight is only part of the story. The cue also features a phenolic tip and ferrule giving it more power than a standard leather tip. The wood pin is actually built into the shaft, giving the Heavy not only superior power but also unprecedented feel for a break cue. It should be noted that this cue is not for everyone. Some leagues have banned this break cue, as it exceed their maximum weight restrictions. Also, keep in mind that if your ball comes off the table, it is a foul so you will need to have control to go along with the power of your break.

This cue is now back in stock and ready to ship. If you have any question about the Banned Breaker or any of the pool cues or billiards products we carry, don’t hesitate to email or call us toll free at 866-843-3294.
